Local Area

High Woods Farm, in Shallowdale, Wass, near Ampleforth is set in forty-five acres of the North York Moors National Park.

Its secluded yet accessible location makes it an ideal place to relax and unwind from the stresses and pressures of modern day life.

Guests can take advantage of the many walks available from the doorstep, through our own woods and hillsides to local places of interest such as Riveaulx or Byland Abbey, or take a short walk to one of the local pubs serving Yorkshire real Ale and excellent food.

Byland Abbey

Riveaulx Abbey

Nearby are so many local places of interest, such as towns like Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside and Pickering whilst those wanting to go slightly further afield might like to visit Goathland (Aidensfield in Heartbeat) or explore the coast at Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby where you can sample freshly caught fish and chips after a day in the fresh air.

The North York Moors Railway presents an opportunity to journey from Pickering to Grosmont through stunning moorland scenery, stopping off to walk or rest before the return journey. An opportunity to re-live the 'Golden Age' of steam train travel.
